A DEEP HISTORY OF TAKING ACTION

A Voteless People is a Hopeless People” (aka VPHP) was initiated as a National Program of Alpha during the 1930’s when many African-Americans had the right to vote but were prevented from voting because of poll taxes, threats of reprisal, and lack of education about the voting process.

Voter education and registration have remained a dominant focus of this outreach activity for over 65 years. In the 1990’s, the focus has shifted to include political awareness and empowerment, delivered most frequently through town meetings and candidate forums.

The Epsilon Lambda Chapter is committed to assuring everyone is registered to vote and that they will vote. We hold events, throughout the year, where non-registered voters are able to register by completing a registration card, which we personally mail out.

One of the VPHP events that we host each year is titled RIGGED: THE VOTER SUPPRESSION PLAYBOOK . During this event attendees will view a film dedicated to voter suppression, then take part in a panel discussion were information regarding voter suppression and the importance of voting is discussed. Attendees will also have the opportunity to either register to vote or make address changes to their voter's registration.
